Despite the multiple updates of Google’s algorithms, the number of backlinks remains one of the most important SEO criteria. However, the way to get these external links pointing to one of your web pages has evolved over time. Today, not all backlinks are created equal.
The Penguin algorithm has penalized sites that used abusive techniques to increase the volume of backlinks in order to improve their positions on the result pages of Google’s search engine. We advise you on the elements to take into consideration when judging the quality of a backlink.
External links from an authority site send signals of trust to Google. The higher the authority of the site where the link is posted, the more link juice you will benefit from for the SEO of your site.
Tip 2: Authority pages
Also in the same vein, backlinks from an authority page (which itself has a large number of external links) will be invaluable for your SEO strategy. In the end, the main thing is to prioritize quality over quantity. Different backlink analysis tools have metrics that measure the authority level of a site and a page.
Tip 3: Consistency of the content of the page
A backlink is consistent if the content of the page where the link is placed relates to the subject developed on the landing page. In addition, the site which links to one of your pages must also deal with the same theme as yours.
The wording of the link must relate to the content of the landing page. Keep in mind that the purpose of the link anchor is to specify the subject of your page and to tell Google on which query it should be referenced. Be careful not to over-optimize the anchors with only keywords, otherwise, you will be penalized! The link anchors should be varied.
User experience has become a ranking criterion for searches carried out from a smartphone. In the eyes of Google, a clicked link sends a good signal because it is a sign of consistency between pages.
Consider embedding your links in a way that your visitors want to learn more about a topic. A link carries more weight if it is present in the content of the article. Conversely, backlinks located at the foot of the page or in the header have a low value.
The number of unique domains that refer to your site is an important factor for Google. A backlink that comes from a new site will always carry more weight than a domain that connects you with several backlinks. It is better to have 15 links from 15 different sites rather than 15 links from a single domain.
also generating backlinks with infographics sites is a great idea.
Finally, favor the most natural distribution possible between the “dofollow” and “nofollow” links. If these do not bring any benefit in terms of SEO, they reflect a good practice appreciated by Google.
Search engines favor authoritative web pages for each keyword searched. This means that these pages appear first in the SERPs for those keywords or, better yet, are placed in snippets, which practically guarantees thousands of visitors every day.
Analyze your competitors
Looking for backlinks? Why bother, the others have already done the job for you!
The first step, list your biggest competitors or the articles that appear in the top 10 places of Google for the keyword you are targeting. (you can redo the operation using alternative keywords, this will give you more potential backlinks to analyze)
Then, for each page, you rated, get their backlinks using a tool like Majestic SEO, ahrefs, or Seoprofiler. Although these tools are paid, you can most often use some features for free or even all features for a limited trial period (take the opportunity to analyze as many of your competitors).
To analyze all these potential backlinks, I advise you to integrate everything in an excel file and to use filters to keep only the best ones.
Listing in Quality Directories
Probably one of the oldest sources of links in the SEO world. So yes, the heyday of directories are behind them and a link of this type will never be worth a good link from a “real” site, but this does not mean that they should be completely forgotten.
Carefully select a few generalist directories, this will not hurt you and will give a slight boost to your SEO. In short, a good directory is a directory that:
- does not automatically validate requests
- requires a long description
- has a correct trust flow (at least greater than 20)
If you find directories specializing in your topic, that’s even better!
As this task is not complicated but a bit time consuming, you can save time by outsourcing registrations.
Write guest articles
A well-known and widely used technique in recent years, guest blogging still has a bright future ahead of it . The principle is simple, you write articles that you then submit to other blogs in a theme close to yours.
Like all the other techniques, it should not be abused and above all, it should be done properly. If you write low-quality articles, not only will you have a hard time finding blogs that will accept to publish them (think about your reputation) but in addition, those that will risk being frowned upon by Google. So before submitting your articles, ask yourself the following question: Would I have accepted to publish this article on my blog? If the answer is no, there is no point in suggesting it …
To find blogs that accept invited articles, you can for example do a search like:
“Submit an article” + your topic
Although this technique is much less effective than before, you can still do it in small doses. On the other hand, immediately forget to exchange links in the footer or the sidebar. It doesn’t do anyone any good, and it sends the wrong signals to Google.
If you want to do link exchanges, it has to bring something to the readers (on both sides). Find respectively an article where you could make a link that complements it or if you cannot find one, create a custom article to place the link there. Try not to add your links at the same time and let some time pass, it will look more natural …
Finally, whatever method you use, always try to keep the reader’s best interests in mind. If it helps them, Google will be happy.
Another solution, if you have several sites on the same theme, you can make indirect exchanges. You make a link towards the site of a partner starting from site A and this one makes a link to your site B. Good after, Google is not fooled, do that in good intelligence, and do abuse not!
Create an Infographic
In recent times, computer graphics have been on the rise and at the same time it is understandable. They are more pleasant to watch than an article and in addition, we retain information better in this format. But what makes it interesting for you is that they generate a lot more shares than regular articles and as a bonus, if you apply the right method, you are going to be able to get good backlinks:
- Create your infographic. For this, you have 2 choices, either you do it yourself for example with a site like https://www.easel.ly/ or you subcontract it (you can find this kind of service on fiverr.com) . It’s up to you to decide according to your affinity with this kind of work but also according to your means.
- Then, you will list as many sites as possible that address topics similar to your infographic. (a simple Google search will give you very good results)
- And finally, all you have to do is contact all of these sites (by email or via social networks):
- Show them your infographic
- Offer to share it with their audience
- And to increase your chances, also offer to write a unique intro where you can insert your link
I advise you to read this article list infographic sites. submit your infographic and get backlinks.
If you have something to sell, whether it’s a training course, an ebook, or even a physical product, you can easily get free publicity.
How? ‘Or’ What ? Well, quite simply by offering your product for free to influential players in your market who will then publish an article on their blog (depending on your notoriety, you may have to settle for more “modest” sites).
Simple and effective, on the other hand, it can be dangerous if the product is not of good quality, Beware of bad publicity which can be devastating!
Create a Free Tool
If you have the option to create a free tool, Go For It! It’s a huge source of backlinks. You don’t necessarily have to create something big.
Now you are probably telling yourself that this method is reserved for developers … Well no! In reality, anyone can outsource the creation of a mini-app. Either you know someone who can take care of it, or you use a service provider. If you are comfortable in English you can find it cheaply on freelance platforms like Upwork.
Buy an Expired Domain Name
If you like recycling, you will love this technique :). Every day a multitude of sites close and their domain names are therefore no longer renewed. Well know that for you, it’s a godsend! Even if a site closes, the links it had are still there. So if you buy the domain name you get its links back too!
So, this technique is very effective but it is complex. Beginner refrain. I won’t describe it in detail here, but here are the (very) highlights:
- Find and buy an expired domain name in your theme (look on Expireddomains.net to find one)
- First solution: you simply do a 301 redirect from the old domain name to your site to retrieve the links
- The second solution: you go up a site on the acquired domain name, you make it “revive” then you make links towards your site
Be Charitable, Make a Donation!
Why not donate to charity? You are doing a good deed and besides, if you choose well, you can get a link! Ok, you will probably be totally off topic but this kind of site often having an important authority in the eyes of Google, why deny it? However, don’t expect miracles either
To find some, try searches like “list of our donors”, “make a donation” …
Commenting on articles in your theme is an essential point to make yourself known and build relationships . Most of these comments will get you a link on your name. Unfortunately, these links are most of the time in Nofollow, that is to say they do nothing for your SEO.
However, some blogs still offer Dofollow links . Do not overuse this technique and only comment if it is really useful! Also, avoid commenting on poor quality sites, it won’t do you any good.
a request to help you find blogs with dofollow comments: yourkeyword + “This site uses KeywordLuv” OR “your first name @ Your keyword” OR “your name @ Your keyword” OR “Enter YourName @ YourMotecode”
